The South African Post Offices’ (Sapo) Communications Division has recently announced in a statement issued on Tuesday that they will no longer pay out South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) R350 grants.
The Post Office has further stated that the only available alternative payment collect option for R350 grant recipients when they apply is the variety of retail stores that were already available before this application round.
The application app now includes an option where beneficiaries can receive their grant from any Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers, or USave merchant. The SA Post Office strongly advises beneficiaries to include this option: Post Office branches will no longer pay out SRD grants.
Those who have previously reapplied for their SRD grant can still choose to collect it at any Pick & Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers, or USave stores.
R350 grant beneficiaries have also been encouraged to visit Sassa’s SRD grant website: srd.sassa.gov.za and respond to the security SMS they will receive on their phone. After that, grant recipients can revise their applications to include retailers and resubmit them.
To withdraw the grant from supermarkets, recipients must have their phone numbers. If you don't already have a phone number, get one by purchasing a sim card and applying for the grant using that number. On the above-mentioned website, they can also change their phone number. Sassa beneficiaries who receive old age, disability, or child grants can still collect their grants from any Post Office branch.
