Autumn graduations have officially commenced at the University of South Africa (Unisa).
According to a statement released by the institution, the Principal and Vice Chancellor, Professor Puleng LenkaBula, kick started the graduations and presided over the first of the graduation series, held at the Muckleneuck Campus in Pretoria on 22 March 2023.
"There are all-in-all 87 ceremonies scheduled, which will see approximately 35 000 students graduating in the year that Unisa celebrates its 150th Anniversary," reads the statement.
This round of graduation ceremonies is scheduled to run from 22 March to 8 June 2023, and will be held in 7 regions, namely Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, East London, Mbombela, Polokwane and Bloemfontein.

Graduations are the hallmark and pinnacle of trajectories that students follow in the life-long pursuit of wisdom and knowledge in the various degrees they undertake at Unisa. Universities showcase students’ successes and completion of the educational and research processes through graduation ceremonies.
Last year, Unisa had to postpone some of its planned graduation ceremonies due to a disruption caused by protesting members of the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (NEHAWU).
The university is currently in direct contact with all of this year's graduates to advise them of their respective graduation dates and times.
The Chancellor of the University of South Africa, Former President Thabo Mbeki is scheduled to officiate at the graduation ceremonies in Pretoria on 29 March 2023 at 18:00, in Mbombela on 15 April at 18:00, and in Durban on 08 June 2023 at 18:00.
