With classes set to officially start on Monday 21 February in order to give students enough time to prepare for their academic activities, the University of the Free State has indicated that it is ready to resume contact classes for 2022.
The difference this year, however, is that the university will forge ahead with the implementation of its mandatory vaccination policy.
The UFS Council approved its mandatory vaccination policy on 26 November 2021, which was then implemented on 9 December 2021. The university says that the policy is aimed at regulating access of staff, students, ad hoc contract workers, and visitors to all the university’s premises.
Thus, as of 14 February 2022, it will be compulsory for all staff/registered students/visitors who are not vaccinated, to upload a negative Covid-19 PCR test here on a weekly basis, or have an approved exemption from the Vaccination Exemption Committee in order to access premises.
Vaccinated staff/students/visitors will access campus with a permanent QR code and staff/student campus access card at the following gates:
- Bloemfontein Campus: Main Gate (Gate 1), Roosmaryn Gate (Gate 2), Medical Gate (Gate 3), or Visitors Gate (Gate 5). (Health Sciences delivery gate for staff only).
- Qwaqa Campus: Main Gate
- South Campus: Main Gate
Unvaccinated staff and students must access campus at the following gates:
- Bloemfontein Campus: Furstenburg Road Gate (Gate 4). (Get directions to gate here)
- Qwaqa Campus: Main Gate
- South Campus: Main Gate
No unvaccinated visitors will be allowed on campus. For technical support with uploading certificates or the gate screening process, contact the ICT Services Helpdesk: +27 51 401 2000.
