Undergraduate students enrolled at NWU can apply for Nsfas funding. The comprehensive bursaries offered by Nsfas aim to cover all the costs associated with studies including tuition fees, registration fees, accommodation costs and learning material costs.
NWU Academic Merit Bursary
Full-time undergraduate students who receive an average of 75% in their final exams qualify for the NWU Academic Merit bursary. Students who meet the criteria are not required to apply for the bursary and will be awarded it automatically. They will be required to fill out a form for the university.
Funza Lushaka Bursary
The Funza Lushaka bursary is aimed at increasing the number of qualified teachers in South Africa. Students enrolled in a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree or Postgraduate Certificate in Education at NWU may apply for this bursary.
Leadership Bursary
Students who served as head boy/head girl of a school in Grade 12 can apply for the NWU leadership bursary. These students must have obtained admission to the university before applying for the bursary. It's a once-off bursary only available for first-year students
Support Bursary
Students who are physically disabled, an orphan- and/or in foster care can apply for the NWU support bursary. The student must have obtained admission to the university before applying for the bursary

NWU also offers a family discount on tuition fees for applicants that have family members at the university. While this is not a bursary, families that have multiple students enrolled at the institution will receive a percentage off the tuition fees of their students.
The second student from a family will receive 15% off their tuition fees, while the third student will receive 20% off their tuition fees. The fourth student from a family will receive 25% off their tuition fees.
