Recently, the City of Cape Town has called on qualifying individuals to apply for an external bursary, as financial assistance in their undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications of choice.
The application period opened on 1 September and will close on 30 September 2022, which gives applicants at least two weeks to submit their bursary application.
In an interview, Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys has shared:
It is always such a privilege for the city to provide aspiring students with the means to further their studies within their chosen field.
The external bursary caters for the students' cost of registration, examinations and class fees for their formal studies.
However, in some instances, where a proven need exists, the City may also cover a capped residence allowance, funding permitting.

Applicants may download their bursary application form on the City’s website or obtain one at one of the City’s walk-in centres or library.
As South Africa has a high demand for scarce skills, this will help in meeting the supply by affording financial assistance to students interested in these fields of study.
At the beginning of the 2022 academic year, Higher Education recorded 208 299 first-time entering enrolments for scarce skills in universities across the country, with 69 069 of these first-time entering enrolments dedicated to scarce skills areas.
