During her media briefing on the readiness of the Education sector for 2022, Basic Education Minister, Angie Montshekga announced that she launched the Matric Second Chance Programme's campaign in Mpumalanga and further stated that she will continue with the campaign.

The registrations for the exam rewrites programme began on 01 October 2021 and will close on 15 February 2022. The Minister added that the mid-year exam will start on 09 May 2022 and end on 23 June 2022.

The Matric Second Chance Programme is a support system for learners who failed to meet the requirements of their National Senior Certificate (NSC) or extended Senior Certificate (SC).

The following candidates meet the eligibility criteria to participate in this programme:

  • Those who have written Matric exams but were not pleased with the outcome and would like to improve their results.
  • Those who failed their Matric.
  • Those aged  21 and above, who passed Grade 9 and would like to obtain their Matric certificate.

Those who fall into the third category may register with their Grade 9, 10 or 11 results as well as a copy of their Identity Document (ID)

Those listed on the first and second categories will be required to provide a copy of their ID and Matric or statement of results when registering. Candidates can either apply on Basic Education Department’s Second Chance Programme website or visit their nearest local district.
