Bunny Khosa High School, in Busbuckridge, is one of 101 schools in Mpumalanga that have been converted to a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
“We don't have teachers for Science and Maths. Teachers who are still here, are for geography, history, and commercial subjects,” shared one of the learner's parents.
This has negatively impacted the learners of this Mpumalanga school, and parents have alleged that even the performance of this school has dropped due to this.
In a SABC live interview, another parent said:
It pains me a lot because the children are sitting at home and others are being transferred to other schools.
After these changes in 2014, the Department of Education hadn’t introduced new resources to align with the new changes of this school.
Director of Maths, Science, and Technology, Elijah Nkosi argued that the provincial education department has always provided support by making sure that teachers and textbooks are available.
The Mpumalanga Education Department has encouraged parents to supports their children in the process.
