The Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) bursary designed to provide financial assistance to students pursuing tertiary education. It aims to support students who come from poor and working-class families, ensuring that the financial cost of obtaining a degree does not hinder students from obtaining a qualification.
ISFAP has opened 2025 applications for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The scheme began accepting applications in June.
When 2025 ISFAP Bursary Applications Will Close
Students interested in applying for ISFAP funding will have around five months to apply as ISFAP bursary applications are set to close in October 2024. However, there is a limited number of bursaries available which means students must apply as soon as possible.
Why You Should Apply For ISFAP Funding
ISFAP covers tuition fees, accommodation, meals, textbooks, and other essential study materials. This comprehensive support allows students to focus on their studies without the constant worry of financial burdens.
In addition to covering educational expenses, ISFAP also provides a living allowance to help students manage their daily needs. Beyond financial aid, ISFAP offers various support services, including academic support, life skills training, and career guidance.
This holistic approach helps students succeed academically and prepare for the job market.
ISFAP also connects students with mentors who provide guidance, advice, and support throughout their academic journey. This mentorship can be invaluable in helping students navigate challenges and make informed decisions about their futures.
Who Qualifies For ISFAP
To be eligible for the ISFAP bursary, applicants typically need to meet the following criteria:
Applicants must be South African citizens and must be in Financial Need. This is because the ISFAP bursary targets students from poor and working-class families, with a household income threshold set at R600,000 per annum.
Applicants must have a strong academic record and meet the entry requirements for their chosen field of study. ISFAP prioritises fields that are critical to the national economy, such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees.
