The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has opened grant applications for July 2025.
Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grant payments, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and the Grant-in-Aid.
Individuals who meet the eligibility criteria for any of these permanent grants are encouraged to submit a Sassa grant application for July 2025.
How To Apply For A Sassa Grant For July 2025
Step 1: Visit Your Nearest Sassa Office
Applications for permanent Sassa grants must be submitted at a Sassa office and completed in the presence of a Sassa official.
It’s important to note that there is no cost involved in applying for a grant.
If an applicant is unable to visit a Sassa office, they can authorise a family member or friend to apply on their behalf. A written letter of authorisation is required for this.
Step 2: Ensure You Meet The Grant Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the specific eligibility criteria for the grant they are applying for and provide the necessary supporting documents to complete the process.
Step 3: Receive Proof of Application
Once the application is submitted, the applicant will receive a reference number or receipt. This serves as the only official proof that the application was submitted, and should be kept safe.
Step 4: Await The Outcome
If the application is approved, the grant will be paid from the date the completed application was submitted—provided all required documents are included.
Note: This excludes the Foster Child Grant, which is paid from the date of the court order.

Sassa also offers online applications for the Child Support, Older Persons, and Disability grants.
What If Your Grant Application Is Rejected?
If a grant application is unsuccessful, Sassa must inform the applicant in writing with the reason for the rejection.
If the applicant disagrees with the decision, they can lodge an appeal. Sassa staff at local offices can provide guidance on how to submit the appeal.
