The South African Postbank has begun rolling out the new Mzansi Black card. Millions of South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant beneficiaries must collect a new Sassa black card.
Each month, the Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grant payments, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
What This Means For Sassa Gold Cards
Many of Sassa’s 18 million grant beneficiaries currently use the Sassa gold card to collect their grant payments. Gold cards are also used to make purchases at retail stores allowing beneficiaries to pay for goods and services with ease.
Beneficiaries have expressed concern regarding the validity of their Sassa gold cards as the rollout of the new Sassa black cards proceeds.
Postbank’s Bongani Diako has assured Sassa grant beneficiaries that their gold cards will remain fully operational while Black cards are being issued around South Africa.
When Sassa Gold Cards Will Expire
Diako added that there is no completion date for the Sassa black card rollout. Postbank has not set a date for the completion of the transition to the new cards.
Sassa gold cards will remain optional until all Sassa grant beneficiaries receive their new Sassa black card.
Postbank assures all Sassa Gold Card grant recipients who have not been issued Black Cards yet that their Gold Cards will continue to work to collect their grants until they are replaced, so they need not be concerned.
Diako said:
The transition will be completed once every Gold Card has been replaced.

Postbank provided instructions on what grant beneficiaries must do to find a location that is replacing Sassa cards.

After completing these steps, beneficiaries will see a list of locations where new cards are being issued.
