Millions of people in South Africa rely on social grants. Here's when Sassa grants will be paid in May 2025.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the grant payment schedule for May 2025. This is important information for millions of South Africans who depend on social assistance.

Sassa distributes more than 18 million permanent social grants each month, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support Grant Top-Up, and Grant-in-Aid. Around 8 million people also receive the temporary Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.

Sassa Grant Payment Dates For May 2025

  • Older Persons Grant: 6 May 2025
  • Disability Grant: 7 May 2025
  • Children’s Grants: 8 May 2025

Sassa Grant Increases

Each year, during the Budget Speech, the Finance Minister announces Sassa grant increases. These are implemented from 1 April annually.

For 2025, the following Sassa grant increases have been confirmed:

  • Old Age Grant: R2,315
  • War Veterans Grant: R2,335
  • Disability Grant: R2,315
  • Foster Care Grant: R1,250
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2,315
  • Child Support Grant: R560
  • Grant-in-Aid: R560

For the 2025/26 financial year, government has allocated R284.7 billion towards social grants.
