The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has warned grant beneficiaries against a false message that has been circulating on social media.

The message appears to have been sent from the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature and claims that Sassa is offering R700 monthly vouchers for children aged 0-5. They also claimed that SRD grant beneficiaries could benefit from the voucher.

Sassa has confirmed that the circulating message is fake and has strongly cautioned grant beneficiaries not to share their personal details to people who represent themselves as Sassa officials.

We urge people to never give their IDs to anyone who poses as a Sassa official & when in doubt, they must visit SASSA offices to confirm or call 0800601011.

Sassa official’s mandate is to administer social grants to the poor and vulnerable throughout the country. Grant applicants and beneficiaries can also contact Sassa through the following channels:

Online

You can find the official Sassa website by going to www.sassa.gov.za. Here, you will be led to the SASSA home page, where you will find announcements about grants and relevant media releases or information on the various Sassa grants that you might be looking for.

For the official South African Government website page on Sassa, go to www.gov.za. On this website, you will find many different resources with regards to tax, assistance for foreign nationals and other relevant information to assist you.

For the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant website, you can go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/ Here you will find more information on the SRD grant and how to apply for it. This is where you can also track your application status.
