The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has closed admission applications for the 2025 school year. Despite closing the admissions application period, the department is obligated to ensure learners are placed at a school in 2025, however, to ensure this, parents are required to take action.

WCED school admission applications for Grades 1 and 8 closed earlier this year. While the department opened a late application period which closed on 12 May 2024 leaving many parents wondering how their child will get a place at a school next year.

The WCED is encouraging parents whose children will start Grade 1 or Grade 8 in 2025 to visit their closest WCED district office. The officials at the office will assist parents on the steps they need to take to ensure their child’s placement.

Parents who have not yet applied for the 2025 school year for Grades 1 and 8 need to please contact their nearest district office.

Parents may also visit a school and request assistance with capturing an admissions application. However, this is not necessarily an application for the school you visit as the school is assisting with the capturing of your information.

You can, however, apply either at one of our Education District offices or at a school. The schools are able to capture your application.

Parents can also call the WCED admission office on 0861 819 919. These calls must be made between 7:30 AM and 5 PM.

Contact your district office for late 2025 Grades 1 and 8 school applications.  Please call 0861 819 919 for further advice if required. Admission Office Hours: 07h30 - 17h00

The WCED encourages parents who relocate to the Western Cape to contact district education offices for assistance.

"Parents who relocate to the Western Cape after the late application window closes or those who did not apply earlier for any reason must contact their district office as soon as possible for assistance. The WCED encourages applying early to avoid any last-minute complications."
