Last Chance To Apply For NSFAS Funding For Trimester 2

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides funding for tuition fees, accommodation, and study materials, among other things.

The funding opportunity is strictly for students pursuing their undergraduate and postgraduate studies at public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.

The government bursary scheme has different application cycles for university and TVET college students.

TVET College students who intend on applying for funding through the government bursary scheme’s Trimester 2 funding cycle, have the opportunity to do so until 22 May 2023, when the applications will close.

Students will have to submit their funding applications online, and follow these steps for funding: 

1. Go to the NSFAS website
2. Click on the 'myNSFAS' tab.
3. Create a myNSFAS account.
4. Click on the 'APPLY' tab and complete the sections on the screen.
5. Upload required supporting documents where applicable.
6. Click on 'Submit'

For the student's application to be received by NSFAS, students have been advised to first create a profile, complete the application process and then submit it.

The Scheme’s CEO Andile Nongongo said they are trying to make the application system simple so that prospective bursary recipients don’t spend more than 10 minutes on an application. 

Here’s How Many Students Applied For NSFAS Funding In 2023:

The government bursary scheme’s Board Chairperson, Ernest Khosa confirmed that just over 1,5 million applications were received for the 2023 academic year. 

When the academic year kicked off in some institutions of learning in February 2023, approximately 613,000 applicants were provisionally funded.

Khosa explained that 338,320 were continuing students and 275,589 were new applicants who had been provisionally funded.
