The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed allowance payment values for December 2024.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges. This includes money for tuition and registration fees as well as several allowances for food, accommodation and learning materials.
The government bursary scheme has confirmed how much TVET College allowances will be for December 2024.
NSFAS Allowances For TVET Colleges
TVET college students receive an annual living allowance of R10,000. The learning material allowance for TVET students varies depending on the courses they are enrolled in.
Special provisions are made for students with disabilities, who receive higher living allowances and an additional learning materials allowance.
However, specific conditions apply, such as eligibility for allowances only during simulated training for certain TVET students.
Monthly NSFAS Allowances for December 2024
NSFAS allowances are divided into 10 payments every year. This means that in December 2024, students will not receive any allowances.
December is different to every month due to NSFAS not paying allowances during this month. NSFAS only pays allowances for 10 months every year, during the academic year.
The academic year commences in February and ends in November for most institutions which means that NSFAS pays allowances from February until November.
TVET College Students Must Submit Banking Details To Receive NSFAS Allowances
NSFAS called on TVET College students to upload their banking details on the myNSFAS portal to ensure they receive their allowance payments on time.
Approximately 11,000 students failed to submit their banking details on the myNSFAS portal, which could delay their allowance payments. The bursary scheme said efforts are underway to ensure all students' banking details are available and verified.
It’s important to note that only students with confirmed funding and submitted registration data could add their banking details on the myNSFAS portal. NSFAS verified all submitted bank accounts.
