The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has made 293,057 placement offers during the first week of the Gauteng Admissions placement period. Thousands of parents await placement offers for their children for the 2025 academic year.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane says more than half of the placement offers sent to parents have been accepted.

To date, 148,744 offers have been accepted, while about 105 193 offers are still to be accepted by parents.

The GDE encourages parents to check their application status online and accept or decline offers within 7 days. This will allow the department to place learners who are offered unclaimed places to other learners.

"Parents are urged to log on to the Online Admissions website within seven days of receiving an offer to either accept the offer as final (which places the learner at the school with no possibility of reversal) or provisionally accept while awaiting other offers."

Placement offers are sent out in batches and will continue throughout the year.

While placement offers are being sent out in batches, we remind parents that this process will continue throughout the remainder of the year.

Parents are reminded that accepting an offer keeps the child in the placement process while awaiting further offers.  If a new offer is accepted, the previous one will be cancelled. No further offers are made within seven days, the last accepted offer becomes final.

If an SMS confirms a child’s placement at a specific school, no further action is required from the parent, as the child is considered placed at that school. All placements are subject to the availability of space and the priority of placement criteria.

What Your Gauteng Admissions Status Means For Your Child

Parents whose application statuses have been marked as "Application still being processed" are encouraged to wait for the GDE to present a placement offer.

The department has also acknowledged concerns raised by parents whose application statuses have shifted from "Documents Verified" to "No Documents Submitted."

This change is a result of a rigorous review process to ensure the authenticity, legibility, and completeness of submitted documents.

It's important to note that applications flagged as "No Documents Submitted" will only be considered for placement during the late registration period, starting on 11 December 2024.

What Factors Influence Where Your Child Is Placed

  1. Home address within the school's feeder zone closest to the school.
  2. Sibling attendance or previous enrolment at the school.
  3. Work address within the school's feeder zone.
  4. The home address is within a 30km radius of the school.
  5. Home address beyond a 30km radius of the school.

Parents who are unhappy with the placement offers they receive can submit objections online within seven days of the offer.

These objections will be reviewed, and outcomes will be provided within 14 days.

If parents remain unsatisfied with the objection outcome, they can submit an appeal to the MEC within seven days, which will be resolved within 14 to 21 days.

If unsatisfied with the objection outcome, parents can submit an Appeal to the MEC within 7 days, which will be resolved within 14–21 days. Appeals are final and binding.

For assistance or clarification regarding their application or placement status, parents can contact the GDE's Contact Centre at 0800 000 789 or via WhatsApp at 060 891 0361. Additionally, parents can visit any of the department's 15 District Offices for in-person support.
