Disability Grant Requirements
Here's a simpler explanation of what you need to qualify for a disability grant in South Africa:
You must be between 18 and 59 years old and a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee living in South Africa to qualify for the Disability Grant.
You must have a permanent and severe disability confirmed by a recent medical report (less than 3 months old).
There's a limit on how much you and your spouse (if married) can earn and own. For example, a single person can't make more than R97,320 per year or have assets exceeding R1,379,400. These limits are higher for married couples.
You can't be living in a state institution or already receiving another social grant if you want to benefit from the disability grant.
Applying for the Sassa Grant
To apply for the disability grant, which can give you up to R2,080 per month, you'll first need a medical assessment. You can download a form, take it to a doctor or clinic, and have them fill it out. Once you have that completed form, you can proceed with the formal application process.
