The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)'s application window for 2023 officially opened on Wednesday, 28 September,, according to a briefing given by Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande. The minister also offered an update on the assistance that the bursary has given to students throughout the current academic year.

The Minister has said that Nsfas is getting started earlier this year with applications to offer applicants enough time to submit applications and their supporting documentation.

According to Nzimande, the department has also made various developmental changes to make the student funding application process more convenient for those who meet the application requirements.

The Nsfas application system has now seen enhancements to make it similar to other application systems prospective students are using.

As a result of these changes, the application process can now be stopped and resumed at a later time without having to start over completely.

Nsfas applications can be submitted online by using myNSFAS. Additional application channels established by Nsfas include mobile apps, a USSD code and  WhatsApp.

Applicants will be able to track their applications and cancel applications on these platforms as well.

Furthermore, to ensure that applicants without access to technology can still apply, Nsfas will launch an outreach campaign.
