This year's World University Rankings were released on Wednesday, 12 October 2022. The University of Cape Town advanced 23 spots and kept the top spot on the continent.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng expressed pride in the higher-learning institution's recent achievement and attributed it to the university's staff and alumni.
"We are extremely proud of our academics and the larger UCT community".
The teaching reputation survey, the ratio of doctoral degrees issued to academic staff, and the student-to-academic staff ratio were the four of the five indicators for teaching (the learning environment) where UCT saw an improvement. Thus, UCT is rated highest in Africa in all five of the most important international university rankings.
The 1 799 universities were evaluated this year by THE World University Rankings based on 13 performance factors in five categories: citations (30%), research (30%), teaching (30%), worldwide orientation (7.5%), and industry income (2.5%).
The university came in at number 172 on this year's event. UCT is rated highest in Africa in all five of the most important international university rankings.
