SETA, which stands for Sector Education and Training Authority, is a national skills development program aimed at developing in all sectors. But how do you get their leadership? Who qualifies for their funding and much do they pay? read more to find out.

Seta Learnership

SETA's main function is to facilitate skills development by establishing learning programmes such as learnerships, skills programmes, internships and other strategic learning initiatives. This is done through the disbursement of grants to employers and training providers.

Who qualifies for SETA funding

How To Apply For Seta Funding For Inservice Training

In order to qualify for funding, applicants must be between the age of 18 and 30. Candidates are also required to have a detailed curriculum vitae with contactable references and any information they feel may be pertinent to their application. 

Applicants are also required to include certified copies of all relevant certificates, and proof of address that are no older than three months. Candidates must also be permanent South African residents and citizens.

Additionally, most candidates will also be required to have the following:

  • Matric
  • English (read, write and speak)
  • Computer literate
  • Candidates must not have a permanent employment
  • Be self-motivated and a team player
  • Candidates must not be registered with any other institute for a leadership
  • Candidates must not be studying at an institute of higher learning
  • Flexibility with a commitment to learning, but moreover willingness to work

Annually, SETA offers a wide variety of Learnerships including the ones listed below.

  • Funeral Services
  • Funeral Directing
  • Marketing and Sales
  • Customer Management
  • Call/Contact Centre Operator
  • Call/Contact Centre Management
  • Secretarial
  • Administration
  • Property Practitioner
  • Business Advertising
  • Public Relations
  • Beauty Technology
  • Nail Technology
  • Hairdressing
  • Business Practice
  • Project Management

How much does SETA pay for Learnerships?

The Seta responsible will pay a monthly stipend to each learner on the Learnership as part of their training to gain work experience. The exact amount is specified in the Department of Labour's Sectoral Determination for Learnerships and varies depending on the academic level of the particular Learnership.  Seta learnerships have a variety of closing dates, depending on the availability of the learnership.
