Every year, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) opens WCED admissions applications for incoming grade 1 and grade 8 learners for the next school year. After applications close, parents wait to hear if their child got a school placement.
Applying for school admission is crucial and can sometimes be an overwhelming process. Fortunately, there is a way to fight rejected applications.
What To Do If Your Child Didn't Get A School Placement
If your school application was rejected you can ask for a second chance by lodging an appeal via e-mail directly to the provincial Minister of Education.
For those who are yet to apply and don’t know how and where to start, the WCED has put measures in place that these parents can follow.
If your child didn't get any school offers, the department has said that thousands of places will still open up.
Parents should then stay in touch with the schools they applied to and ask that the learner be placed on a waiting list. If you do not get a place at any school within the next few months, the WCED will assist with placement.
What To Do If You Missed The WCED Admissions Deadline
The WCED usually allows for late applications and will then have a specific late applications period but what happens if you miss that period as well?
Luckily, there is still a chance for the child to be placed. Parents can still apply for WCED admission by completing a learner placement form and submitting this at their education district office.
How To Track Your WCED Admissions Application
- Go to the Western Cape school admissions website
- Go to “Track Application Status”
- Select the name of the learner
- Under “Application Status”, it will inform the parent as to whether their application was successful, unsuccessful or whether the learner has been placed on a waiting list.
