As two cold fronts have made landfall in the Western Cape, the province's Education Department has declared that all schools in the province will be closed from Tuesday 11th May.
In a statement David Maynier, MEC for Education, said that while they always try to keep schools open, after considering the severity of the weather warnings the decision has been made to close schools on Tuesday.
This includes all public ordinary and special schools in the province. Disaster Management and SAWS have made the recommendation based on updated weather projections and current conditions.
As of 3:30 on Monday morning 227 schools in the province had applied for closure. He added that a number of schools have already reported incidents of damage.
Maynier added that the province will continue to monitor the situation, but currently they expect schools to reopen on Wednesday 13th May.
