Education qualifications have been a topic of conversation in South Africa for a while now. It was not too long ago when debate over the pursuit of an education degree was stirred, as some deemed a Bachelor in Education degree unimportant, which was not helped by Minister Blade Nzimande’s attempts to pull financial aid funding for those studying for a Bachelor in Education.
Nonetheless, despite this debate, there is no doubt that the teaching sector in South Africa is in desperate need of qualified educators, especially regarding the education crisis that sees many underprivileged students without the right teachers or the right learning facilities.
At Rosebank College, the following education qualifications are offered:
- Bachelor of Education in Intermediate Phase Teaching - a 4-year full-time degree which qualifies the prospective graduate to register as a teacher with the Department of Basic Education, teaching at a South African school for students in grades 4-7.
- Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching - a 3-year full-time degree that also qualifies the prospective graduate to register as a teacher with the Department of Basic Education, teaching at a South African school for students in grades R-3.
- Higher Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education - a 1-year full-time qualification that offers the prospective graduate the skills needed to teach and facilitate in early childhood education for those aged 0-4 years. The graduate would be able to work as an Early Childhood Practitioner or Assistant Practitioner in both private or public early childhood development.
