Joburg City Theatres (JCT), an agency of the City of Johannesburg, is offering an exciting opportunity for unemployed youth to gain skills and hands-on experience in the live event industry with their Professional Cookery Learnership.
Successful applicants will work towards earning a National Certificate in Professional Cookery (NQF Level 4) while receiving practical training in the hospitality industry.
This 12-month learnership combines classroom-based learning with hands-on workplace experience, giving participants the opportunity to develop the skills needed for a career as a professional chef or in the broader hospitality sector.
Joburg City Theatres Professional Cookery Learnership Stipend
Learners accepted into the programme will receive a monthly stipend of R3,500 for the full 12-month duration of the learnership, in line with approved CATHSSETA funding guidelines.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the Joburg City Theatres Learnership, applicants must be South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 who are currently unemployed and reside within the City of Johannesburg.
Candidates must have completed Grade 12 (Matric) or hold an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification. English must have been one of the subjects passed in Matric, as learners must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
Applicants should also have a genuine passion for cooking and be interested in building a career in the hospitality and culinary industry. They must be available to participate in both classroom training and practical workplace learning throughout the entire programme.
Individuals who are currently registered for another learnership, internship or funded skills development programme are not eligible to apply. Applicants should also demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, be reliable, committed and eager to learn.
Documents Required For The Learnership Application
Applicants must submit certified copies of their South African Identity Document, Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent qualification, an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV), and proof of residence confirming they live within the City of Johannesburg. Proof of residence must be provided in the form of a confirmation letter from the relevant Ward Councillor.
