Education serves as the catalyst for personal development, unlocking untapped potential and empowering individuals to achieve their career aspirations. Boston City Campus facilitates this through our online computerised assessment, Career Compass, which matches strengths and interests to appropriate future studies.

“A follow-up personal chat is excellent for clarification, so you can elect to send your Career Profile to your closest Boston branch and request a call-back, simply by registering on the system,” says Natalie Rabson, education specialist and career counsellor at Boston City Campus.

Breaking the chains of youth unemployment

Young people aged 15-24 and 25-34 are the most vulnerable in the South African labour market today. This has resulted in an increase in the youth unemployment rate by 1.1 percentage points to 46.5% in the first quarter.

The recent Quarterly Labour Force Survey from Stats SA shows that of 7,9 million unemployed persons in the first quarter of 2023, as many as 48,3% did not have matric, and 40,7% had completed matric. The survey shows that tertiary education makes a significant difference in securing employment.

Youth with a tertiary education fared the best with employment. Almost 8% of the unemployed had other tertiary qualifications. Most importantly only 2,7% of unemployed persons were graduates!

Boston has a Graduate Guarantee Programme in which a graduate who has signed up and met all the T’s and C’s, yet isn’t working after 6 months, is given a full bursary of further education. We believe that a committed student who graduates WILL find work opportunities!

Education is a vital tool to break the chains of unemployment and create a pathway to economic independence. Boston makes this possible with the mid- year registration block, providing the opportunity to start a qualification mid-year and not have to wait til the next January.

With various levels of service being given to high-school students, at Boston a bachelor's pass means you can study towards a degree! You do not need merit points for entry to Boston degree studies.

This enables students to acquire relevant qualifications, honing critical skills, and staying abreast of industry trends, enhancing their employability and increasing their chances of securing meaningful employment.

Navigating an Ever-Changing Landscape: Education as a Lifelong Journey

In a rapidly evolving professional landscape, continuous education becomes essential for career growth and adaptability.

“One of the key functions of our nationwide branches is to assist students in gaining new skills. Check in at the branch closest to you to discuss courses relevant to your career and interests,” says Natalie.

Education empowers individuals to confidently navigate career transitions, seize new opportunities, and forge their own unique paths to success.

Boston’s pay-off line is “Education. For Life”. Embracing education as a lifelong journey allows individuals to stay ahead of the curve, navigate industry disruptions, and remain relevant in an ever- changing world.

By pursuing professional development opportunities, acquiring new skills, and staying updated on emerging trends, individuals gain a competitive edge and expand their career prospects.

Paying it forward

Education not only transforms and empowers individuals but also has the power to uplift entire communities. By sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and advocating for equal access to education, individuals can play an active role in breaking the cycle of poverty and creating a more inclusive society.

“Through education, individuals have the opportunity to inspire and empower others, nurturing a cycle of growth, empowerment, and transformation that reverberates beyond their own careers,” concludes Natalie.
