What Does The ISFAP Bursary Cover?

The ISFAP bursary covers a number of things, from tuition fees to non-academic student support. ISFAP is a form of financial aid created in 2016 that assists student who struggle to fund their studies themselves.

The Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) is a Support and Funding model for financially needy students that fall under the categories of "poor" and "missing middle" students.

These financially needy students are in a position where they do not qualify for NSFAS but are not able to fund their studies themselves.

The bursary covers 

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Food
  • Learning materials (calculator, textbooks, learning material)
  • Living allowance/pocket money
  • Non-academic student support (project manager; tutorial support; life support; admin support; life skills training; staff mentors).

The qualifying criteria

  • A household means test is done for all applying student 
  • Academic criteria and registration, which vary per institution but will include:
  • A National Benchmarking Test for some institutions (academic and behavioural strength)
  • Matric results 
  • Funder constraints (that meet individual funder objectives) will be applied to students applying 

ISFAP was created in 2016 to assist students that require funding to be successful in a tertiary institution and that are too rich to be funded by NSFAS.
