Should you be fortunate enough to have your bursary application granted, how much will ISFAP pay you in allowances? Here’s everything you need to know about it.

According to ISFAP’s Regional Project Manager, Sifanele Biyela, when a student's bursary application has been approved, ISFAP will cover the following expenses for them:

  • Full tuition costs
  • Student accommodation up to an annual cap (In both private and university student residences)
  • Book allowances (through Van Schaik BookStore)
  • ISFAP also provides a laptop
  • Meal and cash allowance paid directly to the student (or cash and transport allowance depending on were the student is based)

In terms of how the bursary is dispersed, the meal and transport allowance are paid directly to the student.

ISFAP has a system that was developed to monitor its funded students on both financial and situational circumstances so they can also log in and request a psychologist if they need one or request a mentor or a tutor. It automatically runs check-ins for them every semester

She adds that qualifying candidates are only required to log their proof of banking details and ISFAP will proceed to make payments twice a month, at the beginning of the month as well as during the middle of the month. ISFAP will then disperse the funds in accordance with the information provided by the student.

However, funds that cover student accommodation are paid directly to the private student accommodation provider or landlord, thus students are required to submit their lease documents at the head-office. If the student accommodation belongs to the student’s chosen university, ISFAP will receive the student’s accommodation as well as tuition fee, after which they will then pay the university directly.

The bursary scheme also delivers the laptops directly to the funded student and their book allowance is activated at Van Schaik Bookstores. The exact bursary disbursements amount is often subject to change on an annual basis, depending on the specific structure of the bursary agreement with the student.

Upon completing their studies, students are not required to repay any portion of the bursary back to ISFAP as it is a pure bursary without any pay-back clauses or requirements.
