The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme to promote teaching as a profession. All first time applicants must be 30 years or younger to apply for the Funza Lushaka Bursary. 

Prospective bursars must first gain admission at a higher education institution (HEI). The Financial Aid Office and/or the Faculty/School of Education at the HEI will have information on how to apply for the bursary. Distance education and part-time students are eligible for a bursary provided they are eligible in all other respects.

How To Apply:

  1. Open the e-Gov portal
  2. Register by providing personal information
  3. Login to the system using user name and password created when registering
  4. On the e-Services Menu select Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme
  5. Enter the OTP received on the preferred channel
  6. Accept the Terms and Conditions
  7. On the dashboard menu click on the application button
  8. Follow the steps to complete the required field with your information
  9. Accept the declaration to confirm the information captured

If you are looking to study a teaching degree and you're looking for a way to fund your studies, the Funza Lushaka Bursary could be your answer. This bursary is geared towards anyone wishing to become a teacher.

In order to qualify for the bursary you need to be studying or wish to study a Bachelor of Education (BEd) or a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) at a public university.

Teaching students who are funded by the Funza Lushaka bursary are required to re-apply every year. However, there are a few requirements that students need to meet in order to continue receiving funding for their teaching qualification.
