The Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI), part of South Africa's Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI), aims to address youth unemployment by placing young individuals in public schools as Teaching Assistants.
Launched in 2020, the programme has created over 1.1 million short-term job opportunities across more than 23,000 schools nationwide.
Programme Objectives:
Youth Employment: Provide work experience to unemployed youth aged 18–34 (turning 35 by March 2026).
Educational Support: Enhance learning outcomes by assisting teachers and supporting school operations.
Skill Development: Offer training in digital literacy, communication, professionalism, and child safety to improve future employability.
