Students who are studying away from home or who live far from a university that they are attending, usually seek student accommodation close to their campus to avoid travelling long distances to get to their classes. 

In the Limpopo Province there are two universities which include the University of Limpopo (UL) and the University of Venda (Univen). There are many different student accommodation spaces available for students studying at these universities. 

The University of Limpopo has on-campus and off-campus residences for its students. 

On-Campus Residence

The on-campus residence caters for students at all levels of study from first year to the postgraduate level. Senior students are mostly accommodated in the single rooms while junior students share a room.

  • Prefabricated Residences

Students are placed in well-designed, comfortable rooms that ensure an optimal space where students can live and study. 

Off-Campus Residences

Those students who are not offered accommodation on campus or who prefer to stay off-campus are advised to obtain a place at off-campus residences which are privately owned and accredited by the University of Limpopo. 

Sunset Square

This is a privately owned accommodation option that is located not too far away from the UL. This accommodation has many amenities which include a library, gym, entertainment lounge, free WiFi. It is also considered quite safe for students. 

At the University of Venda there are many options for student accommodations both on-campus and off-campus. These residences are spread across the university's premises and the Thohoyandou area. 

These residences usually include 24 hour on-site security, Wi-Fi, as well as academic, recreational and social spaces.

Every year students will be allocated rooms by the Univen residence authorities. Students are not able to choose their roommate if they are allocated a double room and they are not allowed to swap rooms without the permission of the residence authorities.
