The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government bursary that provides tertiary funding to disadvantaged students, who wish to study at any of the 26 public universities or 50 TVET colleges in South Africa.
NSFAS provides funding for tuition, registration and they provide students with allowances for their transport, living expenses and learning materials.
So where can you apply for NSFAS in KwaZulu-Natal?
You can apply online by doing the following:
- Go to https://my.nsfas.org.za/Application/selfservice.jsp
- Create a myNSFAS account
- Click on ‘Apply’ and update your information and upload your application supporting documents
- Click ‘Submit’
There are also application centres around the province such as:
- Ground Floor, Smart Exchange Building, 5 Walnut Road (Cnr. Dr. AB Xuma), Durban KwaZulu-Natal
- Newcastle Civic Centre, 37 Murchison Street, Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal
- Old Museum Building, Corner Main and Bull Road, Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal
- 10 Connor Street, Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal
- 25 Keate Street, Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal
- Mbazwana Thusong Centre, P466, Mbazwana, Umkhanyakude District. KwaZulu-Natal
- Simama Career Centre and Profesional Development: 4856 Matthew Goniwe Street, Shayamoya, Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal
- Ugu Teachers Centre: Dlovinga area, Ward 32 Main rd to Harding, Izingolweni, KwaZulu-Natal
- Zululand Teachers Centre: Stretch Cres, Vryheid, Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal
These centres were made available to assist students in KwaZulu-Natal with their NSFAS applications, especially those who might not have access to the internet or a mobile device.
These application centres are made up of National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) centres, Thusong Centres and various other teacher and youth development centres.
Applications for NSFAS funding will close on 7 January 2022, so apply now before it is too late!
