If you are studying at an institution that requires you to complete a NSFAS application to cover your trimester 2 studies, below is a guide on how to complete the application process.
It is advisable that students apply online via the official NSFAS website or pay a visit to their college bursary office where assistance on how to apply will be given.
Where you can apply for NSFAS funding:
- TVET College bursary office: These colleges usually have a bursary office where students can receive assistance with submitting their applications. An official will do the application on behalf of the student if they provide them with the following information and documents:
- Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of the student.
- Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of parent(s)/guardian/spouse.
- Proof of income – student/parent(s)/guardian or spouse (not older than 3 months)
- SASSA recipients do not require proof of income.
- Online via the official NSFAS website: Students who are able to complete the application themselves can follow the following steps:
- Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the 'myNSFAS' tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account.
- Click on the 'APPLY' tab and complete the sections on the screen.
- Upload required supporting documents where applicable.
- Click on 'Submit'.
- NSFAS Application centres: NSFAS has application centres across South Africa that offer guidance on how to complete applications for funding. Students can visit the NSFAS website to find an application centre near them.
It is important to note when applications for Trimester 2 are open to avoid missing the application window. Make sure to submit your applications on time.
