The 2022 matric results were released earlier this month, with South Africa's Grade 12 learners scoring an 80.1% pass rate for the National Senior Certificate (NSC).
However, for some matriculants, they may want another chance to score better results or simply want to have their exams remarked.
In this case, learners in South Africa are allowed to rewrite their matric exams in order to obtain a matric certificate or if they want to improve their current matric results.
These rewrites are helpful if you have failed or did not get the marks you needed to get into a higher education institution or programme you were hoping for. Perhaps you missed an exam or simply want to improve your marks; this is a way to do so.
Candidates can register for the June or November NSC examinations to improve their results at the beginning of each year.
To apply for a rewrite, you will need a copy of your ID and your Matric certificate or statement of results to register on the Department of Basic Education's (DBE) website. The Second Chance Matric Programme, provided by the DBE, provides support to learners who want to rewrite subjects.
Once you have compiled all the necessary documentation, you may visit your local district office to apply for a Matric rewrite.
Candidates who have rewritten matric and are under the age of 21, can access their matric rewrite results by visiting the District Office or the exam centre they wrote at.
If you are not happy with your matric rewrite results then you can request to have it rechecked or remarked. This will ensure that your scripts are further checked to ensure that all questions are duly marked and that all marks are correctly calculated.
You may apply for a re-mark or re-check of your exams/results at the school or exam centre where you wrote. The closing date for a re-mark and/or a re-check is 3 February, 2023. You need to pay R120 for a re-mark and R29 for a re-check.
The results will be available from 13 March, 2023.
