The University of the Free State (UFS) has recently stated that it will continue to implement its mandatory Covid-19 policy. This comes after the high court in Bloemfontein struck off the roll an interdict application to stop the process on Friday.
The failed interdict application was brought by Free State for Choice (FS4C), The court stated that the FS4C failed to prove that the matter was urgent.
In response to the court ruling, the university stated that it notes that the application by FS4C for an interim interdict against the university’s Covid-19 regulations and required vaccination policy was struck off the roll in the Free State High Court, in Bloemfontein.
The University further confirmed that starting on Monday 14 February, it will be compulsory for staff and students to vaccinate or upload a negative SARS (Covid-19) PCR test (not older than a week) on its campus access system if they are not vaccinated.
After the high court in Bloemfontein put down an interdict appeal to stop the process on Friday, the University of the Free State (UFS) will implement its mandatory Covid-19 jab policy.
The university’s management further stated that the implementation of the policy was “consistent with its prerogative and obligation to maintain a safe working and learning environment for its staff, students, and visitors”.
