According to a statement released by the GDE, the department reported that as of Monday 25 July 2022, their online admissions system processed a total of 350,207 successful applications for learners seeking placement into schools for Grade 1 and 8 in 2023.
The GDE online admissions system recorded a total of 151,949 applications for Grade 1 learners and 198,258 applications for Grade 8 learners.
The department's call centre received an average of 1700 calls per hour related to the 2023 online admissions on Friday, while about 7,200 phone call enquiries were recorded on Monday.
“We are pleased at the progress our system has made in processing a large amount of applications, Indeed improvement introduced to the system played a significant role in smooth running of the system.” said Gauteng Education MEC Mr Panyaza Lesufi.
About 350 of those calls were attended to per hour on Friday and the GDE WhatsApp line received about 3200 messages on the day applications opened.
Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona says:
“All these enquires were efficiently managed by our team. It looks like the WhatsApp line is a game changer as more people prefer sending their enquires through that medium.”
Parents and guardians are urged to submit their applications before applications close on 19 August 2022 at midnight. They can do so by visiting the departments official admissions website www.gdeadmissions.gov.za and register to create unique login credentials.
“We urge all parents to either submit certified copies of the required documentation to the schools they applied to or upload the documents onto the Online Admissions System.” says Mabona
It is important to note that applicants cannot submit documentation at both schools and onto the online system.
Parents are encouraged to use the departments Decentralised Walk-In Centres for assistance in applying if they do not have internet access or the resources required to apply, and should they need further assistance, they can contact the department's call centre on 0800 000 789 or via WhatsApp on 060 891 0361.
