The National Student Financial Aids Scheme (NSFAS) has recently opened its second-trimester applications for all TVET college students nationwide. However, it is just as important for applicants to keep in mind that applications have a closing deadline that is just a few weeks away.
NSFAS will close its TVET college applications for the 2022 second trimester on Friday 19 August. Applicants who are yet to submit their applications can do so online or manually at their respective TVET college campuses following the procedure that has been detailed below.
Make use of the online application system for walk-ins (super users) or students to complete their applications at the computer lab of their college. A platform for assistive capture applications. Officials from the TVET college campus will then collect the application on the student's behalf.
The following supporting documents must be submitted with the application by the students:
- A copy of the student's temporary ID, their ID document, or their birth certificate from South Africa
- A copy of the birth certificate, an ID, or a temporary ID for the parent(s), guardian(s), or spouse Student, parent(s), guardian(s), or spouse (not older than three months) proof of income (if applicable).
- Students who are Sassa social beneficiaries are not required to provide proof of income.
However, a student who has been designated as a vulnerable child (such as by a social worker) must present a Vulnerable Child Declaration Form that has been filled out by one. Following the completion and submission of the application, NSFAS will review it and inform the students of the results.
It is advised that students must regularly check the NSFAS website after submitting their application to following up on it.
It will not be necessary for those who applied for NSFAS during the walk-in application period to complete the NSFAS system access form. To reactivate their account, they only need to send an email to [email protected]
South African students who are struggling financially but want to enrol in public universities or TVET colleges can apply for NSFAS, a government-funded bursary that covers the cost of their education.
The funding from NSFAS is used to cover the costs of registration, tuition, lodging, books, supplies, transportation, and daily living expenses.
