The University of South Africa (Unisa) has extended its Semester 2 registration period allowing prospective students to register for second-semester studies at the country’s largest university. Second-semester registration for undergraduate and honours degree programmes opened in June which allowed individuals who received a placement offer to register at the institution.

Unisa’s Semester 2 registration for all undergraduate qualifications, honours degrees, and postgraduate diplomas with semester modules will now close on Monday 29 July 2024. This gives students less than one week to complete their registration.

Unisa has extended the closing date for semester 2 registrations to Monday 29 July 2024.

The extension of the registration period also led to the extension of the date until which students have to pay their Unisa minimum fees until 31 July 2024.

The final date for initial minimum payments for semester 2 modules has been extended to Wednesday 31 July 2024.

How To Register At Unisa

Step 1: Visit the Unisa Web Registration Page

Step 2: Select the appropriate qualification level and then click "Go."

Step 3: Enter your student number and other required details. If you don’t have a student number, you need to apply online for admission first.

It's important to check the personal details displayed on the screen and update any incorrect or missing contact information.

Unisa reminded prospective students that providing the correct address and cellphone number is crucial to avoid delays in receiving study materials and important updates.

Step 4: Choose your desired modules from the drop-down list. Ensure you meet all the qualification requirements, including:

  • All prerequisites and corequisites for the module
  • Correct module code
  • Correct semester (1 = first semester; 2 = second semester)

Students must be mindful not to exceed the prescribed number of modules per semester or year, as this can delay their registration.

Unisa may remove modules if you exceed the credit limit per semester and according to fees paid. Note the maximum period allowed to complete your qualification.

Use the free quotation link on the Unisa website to get a quote for your modules.

Students are encouraged to ensure they can afford the minimum fee required before Unisa processes their registration. If necessary, students can remove modules to meet their budget.

Unisa minimum fees can be paid online using the online payment method. If the student does not have a credit card, several alternative payment methods are available on the Unisa payment page.

Keep your proof of payment for any future enquiries.

Step 5: Submit Your Registration

Students can register online and make secure credit card payments through Unisa Fee Payment.

Unisa emphasises that successful registration depends on receiving and accepting a placement offer. Registrations may be withdrawn if a student is admitted to a qualification incorrectly.

Unisa uses an Open Distance e-learning (ODeL) approach to education, meaning students study from home and do not attend any in-person classes. In recent years, the institution has also begun conducting its examinations online.

This flexible nature of Unisa’s ODeL learning model has attracted a diverse range of students, regardless of their schedules and work commitments.
