Sassa Card Expiry Date

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides social grants and allowances to those in South Africa needing financial assistance. These grants help some of the most vulnerable in the country afford basic goods and services.

Some groups that may be eligible to receive these grants from the government include those needing a disability grant, older persons grant, child support grant, war veterans grant, care dependency grant, among others.

If your Sassa/PostBank gold card is expiring on 31 March 2023 you will need to get a new one.

How to get a new SASSA gold card

For Older Persons and Disability related grants you will need to visit your nearest South African Post Bank (SAPO) branch on Mondays and Tuesdays. You will then be able to exchange your card. This process began on 13 March 2023.

For Child Support grants and other grants, you will need to visit your nearest SAPO branch from Wednesdays to Saturdays. For Sassa beneficiaries receiving Child Support grants and other grants, the process of renewing your card began on 15 March 2023.

Sassa Card Renewal

If you have lost or misplaced your Sassa card that is expiring at the end of March, you will also need to collect your replacement card from a nearby SAPO branch.

What Documents Do I Need To Renew Sassa Card?

  • Your Identity Document
  • Your expiring Sassa/PostBank gold card

Please note that replacement/new cards will only be issued at SAPO branches to the person whose name the expiring card has been issued in or only to those who have been registered at Sassa as procurators.

You will only need to visit a SAPO branch this month to renew your SASSA gold card if your card is expiring in March 2023. If your card is expiring later in the year, the dates and processes will be announced at a later stage.

If you have applied for a Sassa grant, but your application was declined, you can submit an appeal.

If you are in need of financial assistance and are eligible to receive a social grant, you can submit an application to SASSA. Please ensure that you meet the necessary eligibility criteria before applying.
