The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has opened Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant applications for February 2025. Individuals who require assistance and meet the eligibility requirements can apply for the grant.
Who Qualifies for the SRD Grant?
To qualify for the SRD grant in South Africa, applicants must meet specific criteria. They must be South African citizens, residents, or hold a special permit. Additionally, they must not receive other government support, such as UIF benefits or NSFAS bursaries. Applicants' monthly income must be below R624, and their bank account balance must be less than R624.
How Sassa Verifies Eligibility For The SRD Grant
Sassa conducts verification checks to ensure eligibility. The Department of Home Affairs verifies identity and citizenship, while the Department of Treasury verifies income using bank details. Once eligibility is confirmed, Sassa proceeds with payments, which are typically made at the end of each month.
