The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) Gold Cards will expire on 28 February 2025, said Sassa. This announcement will impact millions of social grant beneficiaries living in South Africa.

Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grant payments, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

Many of the 18 million grant beneficiaries use Sassa Gold cards to access their money every month. However, the use of the Sassa Gold cards will soon expire.

According to Postbank, all Sassa gold cards will stop working on Friday, 28 February 2025. This gives social grant beneficiaries just over a month to get a new Sassa black card.

All Sassa Gold Cards will stop working on 28 February 2025. Beneficiaries who have not upgraded to the Postbank Black Card are urged to do so.

The Postbank has urged all beneficiaries to upgrade to the new Sassa Black Card.

Where To Get A New Sassa Card

Postbank provided instructions on what grant beneficiaries must do to find a location that is replacing Sassa cards.

  • Step 1: Dial *120*355#
  • Step 2: Select option 1
  • Step 3: Choose your province

After completing these steps beneficiaries will see a list of locations where new cards are being issued.

What To Bring To Get A New Sassa Bank Card

  • Your ID.
  • If you are collecting a grant on behalf of someone, please also bring the official Sassa proxy letter.
  • Asylum seeker grant beneficiaries should bring the official approval letter from Sassa.

All the beneficiaries need to bring to be issued with Postbank Black Cards is a valid ID, or a temporary ID. Therefore, beneficiaries who may have lost or misplaced their IDs are urged to obtain a temporary ID to be issued with Black Cards.
