The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is encouraging all Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant applicants who were rejected to submit an appeal if they believe they qualify for the grant.
Sassa has encouraged beneficiaries to familiarise themselves with the reasons why their SRD grant application may have been rejected. This will give them guidance on the next steps they should take.
Applicants must note that there are different reasons that may cause the application to be declined. Applicants must ensure that all personal details match the one that are registered in the Department of Home Affairs.

Reasons Why Your SRD Grant Application Was Rejected
Income Sources: If applicants have other income sources, including contributions toward income tax or recent employment, their applications may be denied. The SRD grant is intended for those without any other financial support.
Social Grants and Support Programmes: Applications are often rejected if the applicant is already receiving other social grants, Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) payments, or financial aid from programmes like the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). The grant is only available to those without other government support.
Bank Verification Failures: Incorrect or inconsistent banking information can lead to failed bank verification processes, preventing SRD grants from being paid.
Duplicate Identity Numbers: If an applicant's identity number is found to be already registered for an SRD grant, this will result in a “referred” status. In such cases, applicants need to reach out to Sassa to resolve potential duplicate registrations.
Sassa stressed the importance of providing accurate information when applying for the grant to prevent SRD grant payment delays.
Most of the beneficiaries delay the process of approval by keep on changing their banking details.
Applicants need an identity document, smartphone, and internet access to apply for the SRD R370 grant online, though they may also visit a Sassa office for assistance.
