Second Chance Matric Open Now
Applications for the Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) for 2025 are now open.
The SCMP is designed to help students prepare for the matric exams and ensure they meet the requirements to obtain a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate (SC).
The registration period for the 2025 SC/NSC May/June examinations opened on 1 October 2024 and closed on 7 February 2025.
Through the SCMP, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) provides learners with comprehensive support, including face-to-face classes, online programmes, and broadcasts on television and radio.
The Second Chance Matric Programme is a matric rewrite programme that was established in 2016 for learners who would like to improve their results or eventually complete their matric qualification on a part-time basis.
Additionally, matric candidates receive free government-issued resource packs to aid their exam preparation.
How To Apply To Be Part Of The Second Chance Matric Programme
To apply, learners must visit a district office with an ID, statement of results, or matric certificate. School reports are needed for those who left school before matric.
Online registration is available at www.eservices.gov.za for Senior Certificate students, or learners can visit any Department of Basic Education office.
It’s important to note that attending the SCMP does not automatically register learners for the exam; they must complete the exam and rewrite registration separately.
Additional Matric Exam Resources
Learners are encouraged to prepare adequately for the matric exams.
The Careers Portal provides resources including matric past papers, dedicated to making the matric year easier for grade 12s.
You'll be able to find everything you need from matric rewrite information, matric results, study guides, matric past exam papers, matric timetables, tips, advice and more.
These resources can assist both Senior Certificate and National Senior Certificate candidates.
