After the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) closed its admissions applications for grade 1 and grade 8 learners for the 2024 school year, parents and guardians were given outcomes on school offers for learners.
The outcome of applications of learners in the Western Cape for the next school year have been available on the admissions website from 29 May 2023.
In order to track your WCED admissions application you must do the following:
- Go to the Western Cape school admissions website
- Go to “Track Application Status”
- Select the name of the learner
- Under “Application Status”, it will inform the parent as to whether their application was successful, unsuccessful or whether the learner has been placed on a waiting list.
Parents have been assured by the WCED that thousands of places will open up if their child has not yet received any school offers.
The WCED stated:
We are still very early in the process and thousands of places will still open up. We advise parents to keep in touch with schools to see if a space opens up.
Parents and guardians have been urged to stay in touch with the schools that they applied to and ask that the learner be placed on a waiting list.
The WCED has stated that from 19 July to 31 August 2023 schools will review admission lists and contact parents who applied on the system and still need a place for their child.
If learners have still received no placement during this period then from 1 September to 15 December 2023 the WCED Admission Teams will place and resolve outstanding cases.
The department has received more than 160 000 WCED admissions applications for learners wanting to enter grade 1 and grade 8 in the 2024 school year. Many parents have applied to multiple schools so the total applications is above 500 000.
Parents who missed the application period may apply for WCED admission by completing a learner placement form and submitting this at their education district office.
