Almost daily fake news stories are spreading around the internet, first on random websites but then often shared on social media platforms by people who think they are being helpful.
One example was the story that there'd be double SASSA grant payments in one month - another said there'd be a change in the national retirement age. Both were false stories but had many people tricked.
National School Holidays
The last fake news story is that the Basic Education department has changed the school calendar for this year.
That is not true. The school calendar for 2025 has not been changed and terms will start and end on the same days as originally published.
School Terms Unchanged
Schools will close later this month on the 27th June and will reopen on the 22nd July 2025. Term 3 finishes on the 3rd October and term 4 runs from the 13th October to the 10th of December 2025.
Always trust reputable news sources like Careers Portal - which is a member of the Press Council of South Africa. Don't trust unverified stories on unknown websites or shared on social media channels.
