School admission applications for 2024 close on 30 September 2023 in the North West province. This comes after applications in the North West opened earlier this year, giving parents and guardians the chance to secure grade 1 and grade 8 placements.
When applications initially opened, North West MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi urged parents and guardians to make good use of the four month period they had to submit applications on time
We ask all parents and legal guardians to take this four month period to register learners for the 2024 academic year. Over the years this has helped us with proper planning in terms of school furniture and ordering of textbooks and I thank parents for their cooperation.
In order to apply, parents will have to complete an application form, available at schools within the North West province. Additional documentation will be required with each application, such as:
- Certified copy of the child's birth certificate,
- Immunisation card
- Most recent report card (where applicable),
- Transfer letter or card from previous school (where applicable) should be submitted.
Parents from outside of the country will also be required to submit their work permit or the learner’s study Visa, as well as residence permit (or proof of application for non-citizens), asylum seeker permits or certificate granting refugees status for all non-citizens.
Once applications have been submitted, parents will then receive offers by October. Once an offer has been received, it will need to be declined or accepted.
Parents and guardians who have not accepted their offers will receive a non-acceptance letter by 31 October.
While it can be easy to forget to accept or decline a school placement, applicants are encouraged to make a decision in order for the education department to offer placements to other learners who might not have a placement.
