Let's face it, with all the uncertainty around load shedding, students are may feel the strain. But don't let this derail your studies. These days, with technology at our fingertips, there are many ways to carry on learning even when the power is out.

While you may have little control over when it happens and for how long, you do have control over how you deal with it.

Many students, who are unable to study by candle light, often wonder how they can keep up with their studies during this difficult time.

There are a few things that you can do to make sure that you stay ahead with your studies and succeed despite load shedding:

Study when you can

There may be times when load shedding does not interfere with your study time. When there are no power cuts, use your time wisely. Get as much done as possible.

Keep up with classwork

It is important to keep up with classwork. Ask your teacher what material will be covered in class the next day, so that you can read through it before going to school or college the next day.

Plan ahead

Load shedding can happen at any time during the day, so make sure that you plan ahead by preparing for all eventualities. Make sure to also check the load shedding schedule. Use an alternative study space: if it's not load shedding where you are, find somewhere with electricity, like a family member's house or library, and study there.

Take advantage of digital resources

It's a good idea to make sure that your PC, laptop or tablet is fully charged before the lights go out. This will give you access to a wide range of educational resources that could help you with your studies.

Most universities offer online library resources, such as e-books and e-journals that may be useful for research projects or assignments. Many of these digital resources can be accessed remotely; you simply need your student number and password to log in.
