A matric certificate is the legal minimum requirement for admission to a few of the courses offered at any South African university. This means if you want to study any degree at any university, you have to have matric certificate. Depending on your results, this will determine if you'll need to opt for a bridging course to improve your marks or not.
Reason 2: You need credits in order to study what you want
You have to pass certain subjects at a certain level of credits to meet the entry requirements. Universities have a points system in place – learners are awarded a certain number of points according to their final matric marks. Different courses demand different amounts of points.

For many jobs, the minimum entry requirements are to have a matric certificate. You can immediately start working once you've completed high school and work your way up in a field you are passionate about.
