Sasria SOC Ltd announced today that it has proudly partnered with the UCT Online High School to provide partial scholarships to economically-disadvantaged young learners across South Africa.

The new Sasria SOC Ltd and UCT Online High School Learning Liberated Scholarship Programme will provide 100 academically talented learners, who may otherwise not have had the chance to realise their full potential, with 50% of their high school tuition funded over a five-year period for their online high school careers – an investment of over R6 million from Sasria SOC Ltd.

Sasria SOC Ltd Executive Manager: People Management, Tshepiso Chocho, said:

At Sasria, we want to expand the reach of quality education to all learners in the country, this is not something that we can do alone. UCT Online High School and its partners have made it easy for us to be part of the solution, and we hope more corporates will come on board.’

The application deadline has been extended until 17 November 2023 for the UCT Online High School ‘Learning Liberated Scholarships Programme’ and is open to Grade 8-11 learners for admission in 2023.

The ‘UCT Online High School Learning Liberated Scholarship Programme’ was launched on 31 July 2023 to invest in the education of talented learners from economically disadvantaged families, who demonstrate academic potential, have aspirations for tertiary education, and the intent to make a positive and impactful contribution to our nation.

In a little over four weeks since the launch, the need for widespread financial support has been clear - more than 8,000 families showed interest to see if their family would qualify for the partial Grade 8-11 National Senior Certificate (NSC) scholarships for the January 2024 school year. In just under three months, a notable number of families across the country have shown interest to date, cementing the need for accessible, quality education across the country.

As the Partnerships Manager for UCT Online High School, I see the Sasria SOC Ltd partnership as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path to a future where education knows no bounds. In my hands, I hold the key to unlocking the doors of innovation and progress.

I embrace this opportunity with unwavering determination because I understand the immense potential it holds for reshaping the landscape of learning. I believe that, together, we can nurture the minds of tomorrow, empowering them to build a brighter world.", says Munei Tshiovhe, Corporate Partnerships Manager at UCT Online High School.

South Africa's education system is currently facing unprecedented challenges - with an insufficient number of teachers, limited infrastructure, and inadequate resources, the country's youth are struggling to access quality education. In response to these challenges, UCT Online High School offers a solution that is both innovative and accessible, providing high-quality education at an affordable cost.

With the kind and generous support of numerous corporations and sponsors like Sasria SOC Ltd, the ‘UCT Online High School Learning Liberated Scholarship Programme’ has been launched because UCT Online High School believes that these ambitious, intrinsically motivated and responsibly minded young people have the potential to access leading tertiary institutions for further education.

UCT Online High School is currently working with these notable corporate and philanthropic partners to join them in empowering the future of South Africa to make education more accessible to a diverse range of learners who may not afford the full tuition.

This approach allows for more efficient distribution of financial aid, supporting a larger number of learners with available funds. Additionally, funding through donations and philanthropy increases support for the programme, as donors can see their tangible impact on multiple learners.

Partial scholarships also foster a sense of commitment among recipients to maintain academic performance, leading to higher success rates. Furthermore, this financial assistance helps learners and their families manage rising education costs.
