What is a Tax Technician?

A tax technician is able to provide tax compliance services by preparing and submitting tax returns, reviewing completed tax records and verifying and availing source documents, according to SAQA. This service has become increasingly important in South Africa due to complex tax legislation and administrative processes. "The development of the Tax Technician occupational qualification for the South African tax profession was initiated by the (SAIT) during 2012, in collaboration with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO)," reports the South African Institute of Tax Professionals (SAIT).

Where can I get training?

The Phambili training programme is a vital opportunity for registered or suspended tax practitioners who need to upskill their NQF level in line with SARS requirements. Through this course professionals can earn an NQF 6 Occupational Certificate Qualification (Tax Technician) as well as SAIT membership and the designation of Tax Technician in SA.
