Santam has opened applications for its 2026 Learnership Programme, giving young South Africans an opportunity to gain workplace experience while working towards an accredited qualification in the financial services and insurance sector.

The learnership is part of Santam’s broader transformation and skills development strategy within the insurance industry.

Applications close on 31 May 2026.

About The Santam Learnership Programme

The Santam Learnership Programme is an entry-level training initiative designed to develop skilled talent for the short-term insurance industry.

The programme aims to address critical skills shortages in financial services while building a pipeline of future professionals.

Successful learners will complete an accredited qualification at NQF Level 4 and also write the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) regulatory examinations, including RE5.

On completion, learners may qualify for professional membership with the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) at member level.

Who Can Apply For The Santam Learnership

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • Minimum 50% in English (first or second language)
  • Minimum 40% in Mathematics or 60% in Mathematical Literacy
  • South African citizen
  • Aged between 18 and 28 years
  • Unemployed at the time of application
  • No more than 1 year of work experience
  • Not currently studying at any tertiary institution
  • Not previously participated in a short-term insurance learnership through INSETA

Applicants with disabilities must submit a medical note confirming the nature of the disability.

Who Cannot Apply

The following candidates will not be considered:

  • Applicants with a post-matric qualification (such as a diploma or degree)
  • Applicants currently studying towards a post-matric qualification
  • Applicants with more than one year of work experience

Successful candidates will benefit from:

  • Accredited insurance training (NQF Level 4)
  • A monthly stipend
  • Practical workplace experience in the insurance sector
  • Career development opportunities within one of South Africa’s leading short-term insurers

Learnership Duration And Location

  • Duration: 12-month contract
  • Start date: 1 September 2026
  • Location: Nationwide
